Charging Your EV in Leduc Is Simple
Fear of the unknown is something every person has to grapple with, but owning and enjoying a vehicle shouldn’t be comparable to walking down a creepy alley at night or investigating a strange sound in the basement at two in the morning. Range anxiety and uncertainty about how to keep an electric vehicle (EV) charged have been a major worry for a lot of drivers interested in taking a step into the all-electric future of the auto industry. Fortunately, it doesn’t have to be that way. Modern EVs have fantastic ranges, and keeping your vehicle charged is easy and convenient.
When you’re looking at electric vehicles for sale in Leduc, you should consider your at-home and at-work charging options first, but it’s also a good idea to have a sense of where you can charge your vehicle when you’re out and about. This has never been easier since there are entire websites devoted to mapping charging stations (not just in Leduc but across all of Canada), as well as apps that let you quickly find a charging station near you when you’re out on the road. But LA Mazda is here to get you started with a look at some of the most convenient public charging stations here in Leduc.
City of Leduc Downtown EV Station
One of our favourite charging stations here in Leduc is operated by the city and can be found downtown at 4820 49th Avenue. We like this one for a couple of reasons, not the least of which is that it’s pretty conveniently located and easy to reach from all over the city. There are lots of stores and restaurants around, so you can run errands or relax while your car charges. However, what we like most about this location is that it has a couple of Level 2 charging plugs and a couple of Level 3 plugs, which aren’t easy to find in Leduc. They’re also available 24 hours a day and are free to the public. You can’t beat that combination.
City of Leduc Leduc Recreation Centre
Our second-favourite charging station is also operated by the city and is found at the Leduc Recreation Centre at 4330 Black Gold Drive. You’ll find a pair of Level 3 plugs here and four Level 2 plugs, giving you great options for charging any EV. Just like the station downtown, these plugs are open to the public 24 hours a day, and they’re free to use, providing you with a fantastic option to let your car charge when you're exercising.
Premium Outlet Collection Edmonton International Airport
So far, we’ve looked at our favourite locations here in Leduc. Now, let’s move a bit outside of the city and see some spots that are very close but not technically within city limits. Just north of Leduc, at the airport, you’ll find the Premium Outlet Collection located at 1 Outlet Collection Way. There’s a Level 2 charging plug available here 24 hours a day, but it’s not free. Right now, it costs $2.00 per hour to charge there, which isn’t great, but if you find yourself in a tight spot, then it’s a perfectly good option. There is another Level 2 charger nearby at the Fairfield by Marriott Edmonton International Airport, but this one costs $5.00 per hour for the first hour and $3.50 per hour after that.
Best Western Premier Denham Inn & Suites
Making life easier for travellers passing through Leduc, there are two different Best Western locations with charging for EVs available. The first is Best Western Premier Denham Inn & Suites at 5207 50th Avenue. This is certainly not the fastest charging port in the city, which is unfortunate, and there’s just one Level 2 plug here, so that can also be a problem. Still, it’s an option available 24 hours a day and is free for hotel guests, so it’s worth keeping in mind if you have family or friends visiting with an EV.
Best Western Plus Edmonton Airport Hotel
If you find yourself visiting Leduc on the north side of town and in need of a charge, then this can be a good potential solution. The Best Western Plus Edmonton Airport Hotel at 5705 50th Street also has a single plug you can use, just like the other Best Western location. It’s not going to be the fastest option around, so keep that in mind, but it’s available 24 hours a day, and it’s free to use for hotel guests.
Other Locations Outside Leduc
Of course, you have plenty of other charging stations that you can utilize if your EV needs to be “topped up” beyond the boundaries of Leduc while still staying pretty close by. The biggest problem we have with these spots, beyond the fact they’re a bit further away than what we’ve looked at so far, is that they can be shockingly expensive. For example, there’s a Level 3 station up in Nisku at the Surepoint Group building at 700 15th Avenue, but it will cost you $21.00 per hour to use it. It’s part of the SWTCH network, so you may be able to use that to reduce the cost, but otherwise, that’s a steep fee for 50 kW charging.
If you drive a bit further out, then there’s a Level 2 charging location at the McDonald's in Beaumont, at 6404 50th Street. The good news is that there is a pair of plugs at this location, so more than one person can use it at a time, and it’s free to use. Unfortunately, it’s only available for use between 8 AM and 8 PM, so this isn’t always an ideal solution. These kinds of drawbacks can be a hassle, which is why we chose some of the more convenient options initially, particularly since they’re located here in Leduc with us.
All of that said, we’ve been focused on charging stations here in Leduc and very close by while ignoring the biggest hub of stations in the area: Edmonton. Just 30 km north, you’ll find a massive collection of charging stations in just about every shape and size, including free options, ones that you’ll need to pay for, and locations with both Level 2 and Level 3 charging available. There are even several Tesla Supercharger locations in Edmonton—sadly, there are none here in Leduc yet—giving you numerous Level 3 connections. Obviously, if you need something closer, then stick to one of the first chargers we looked at, but spending the day in Edmonton and charging up to come home is easy and convenient.
Get the Most from Your EV
To us, the greatest advantage of owning and enjoying an EV (beyond amazing performance and zero emissions) is the ease of being able to charge your vehicle at home. Nothing is more straightforward than plugging in at the end of the day and finding your car fully charged the next morning before you hit the road. We know that’s not an option for everyone, and even if it is, there are still times when you will prefer using a public charging station. Having some great public charging options here in Leduc makes it a lot easier to get the most from your vehicle, which is what enjoying your EV is all about. With any luck, there will be even more places to easily charge in the city as Canada’s EV infrastructure grows in the years to come. Contact us at L.A.
